Ever wish you could build a 16-wheeled, rocket-propelled, land-based mobile fortress capable of traversing mountains and winding through forests? How about a hovercraft able to reach land speeds of 120 miles per hour without so much as a bump in the chassy? Sure, we’ve all dreamt of it, but who has the time or money or reckless disregard for personal safety? With Scrap Mechanic, the multiplayer, physics-based sandbox “game”, students can experiment with engineering concepts in an incredibly fun, engaging and cooperative way!
In Engineering Concepts with Scrap Mechanic, we build and test rocket-propelled, three-wheeled motorcycles, landscape our yards with kinetic sculptures and even construct small factories (capable of doing what exactly, we aren’t sure). And we do it together in an immersive, virtual environment. In this class, students learn how things are built and how they work. And sure, maybe it’s just a “video game” but how do you know we aren’t already living in a video game, man?
